I missed Easter!

April 8, 2008

I missed Easter this year.

I missed singing “Christ Arose” and “Because He Lives!” I missed seeing the soft hues of the new spring attire. I missed the excitement of the egg hunt by the children. I missed all the joyful celebrations of Resurrection Day.
No, I wasn’t sick or too busy. I was traveling home from Albuquerque, New Mexico from my Mother’s home going. Her memorial service on Saturday was more of a celebration than a sorrowing. Family members remembered and shared story after story of her life as a totally surrendered, Spirit filled mother and grandmother whose influence on all of us was so incredible. Mom had been trapped for years in a worn out body and a mind lost in dementia, so we rejoiced that now she had been set free forever. “…The mortal had put on immortality…death had been swallowed up in victory.” 1Corinthians 15:54b (NKJV).
When we began the three day road trip back home on Easter morning, a great sadness swept over me as I watched families driving to church in their holiday best. For the first time in my life I was missing Easter. Then, once again the Holy Spirit dropped a nugget into my spirit that made me rejoice. What better way to celebrate Easter than rejoice over Mom’s home going? After all, she wasn’t dead, but alive and whole in the presence of Jesus. Because He lives she lives also, and so do I, both now and in eternity, and I will be with her again soon. Hallelujah, Christ Arose!!
How about you, Friend? Do you have this blessed hope? In John 14:19b (NKJV) Jesus says, “Because I live, you shall live also.” “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8 (KJV)

Flowers for Moms

Flowers for Moms

Mother’s Day has, once again, come and gone and I would guess that the majority of Moms received flowers.  I did.  On mykitchen table sets a vase with a single very large daisy that I received from my church, while outside on the back porch waiting to be transplanted...

Epidemic!

Epidemic!

When my friend Jill called about three weeks ago and I explained how I was coughing, she exclaimed, “Oh my goodness! You’ve got that old crud!” “You’re kidding!” I replied. “Is that what it is?” “That’s what they call it. I had it for over a month.” Later when another...

Don’t Get Stuck In A Rut

Don’t Get Stuck In A Rut

We spent a good part of our last four-wheeler trip up Red Oak Ridge picking our way around the ruts. You’ve seen them. Those deep kind that come from logging rigs or hunters in pickup trucks that hit the same tracks over and over. The road is dotted with clay pockets...

Facebook! Friend or Foe?

“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might.” Ecclesiastes 9:10a. Yes, I am on Facebook, and I have discovered that it is a powerful resource from God to reach out to other people. But I had to learn the hard way. Let me explain. At first I wasn’t too...
